Their encounter with Jesus in the opening of the Scriptures and breaking of the bread is life-changing for the two disciples in today’s Gospel story. We have our encounter with Jesus in a similar way during the Mass as we listen to scripture and receive the Eucharist. These sacramental encounters should be life-changing for us, too. Just like these two disciples went forth to spread the Good News of Jesus’ resurrection, our encounters should lead us to do the same. We aren’t to keep Jesus locked up inside of ourselves, we need to show Him to the world through our love and service to others. How lucky we are to be able to encounter the Risen Lord each week at Mass!
